My name is Gary Smith.
I’m a Web developer based in
downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
What I can do
I build dynamic websites using PHP, MySQL and JavaScript. I am proficient with XHTML and CSS and can create table-free layouts that validate to W3C standards. I code and test across multiple browsers and platforms, and the sites I build are properly optimized for Google and other search engines.
A bit about me
After earning my Computer Science degree in 1998, I spent five years in the tech industry as a tester and developer, including four years in the e-Commerce Division at the IBM Toronto Lab. In 2003 I decided to pursue life beyond cubicle walls and began working full time as a freelance developer. Since 2007 I have also been working on contract for the CBC where I help build websites for various television shows including The Hour, Dragons’ Den, Fashion File, Steven & Chris, and The Tudors.
While a few acronyms (like some of those you see above) are unavoidable in this field, I prefer to stay away from confusing technical jargon and meaningless buzzwords. I enjoy finding simple solutions to potentially complex problems.
